British built Avensis makes Top Gear proud

“The previous Avensis did everything that a Toyota should – it drove perfectly well, was comfortable, refined and economical. And it hardly ever broke down,” says Piers Ward in Top Gear’s review of the new Avensis.
The big news with the revised Toyota sees changes to the engine, which now emits less than 120g/km, although the review notes “it seems odd that the Avensis hasn’t got start/stop.
“One point of more obvious excellence is the paint finish – it’s spot on. As a British built car, that makes you proud.
“Refinement has definitely improved. The Avensis is noticeably quieter at speed, if not class leading, and, thanks to tweaks to parts like the dash inner silencer (who even knew that existed?), the diesel doesn’t rattle as much.”

Yaris ‘most affordable’ hybrid

Toyota has released the first pictures of its Yaris HSD model – the first supermini in the world to get the hybrid treatment –ahead of the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

“The Yaris will be Toyota’s compact model hybrid for the European market, while in the US, a compact version of the best-selling Prius, called the Prius C, will be the small car hybrid of choice,” reports The Green Car Website. “Toyota says the model will be the ‘most affordable full hybrid in Europe’ when it goes on sale later this year.”

The website says the Yaris is the “ideal B-segment model” for the hybrid treatment, and is expects it to deliver class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

Yaris makes big improvements

Autoblog UK tester Martyn Collins spent a week with the new Toyota Yaris, long enough to convince him that “this could be the supermini for you”. Targeted at younger buyers this time, “the new car does have more visual impact” than its predecessor, and is the “most slippery in the supermini class with a drag coefficient of 0.287”.
Although the Yaris is “small and easy to park... I found the rear camera that’s fitted as part of the Touch system very useful for tight spaces.
“So to sum up, the latest Yaris is a big improvement over the outgoing car. If you value reliability, safety (it has a five-star EuroNCAP rating) and a long warranty (five years, 100,000 miles) over driving thrills, then this could be the supermini for you.”
